Some friends and I were traveling along a country road to church on Sunday evening and remarks were being made about the rough road and how no one liked to travel this way.
At one point I said, "I think it is beautiful out here. I don't know why folks feel the way they do about this road."
One of my friends said, "Where do you see anything beautiful in this?"
I immediately replied, "I see green-think green and you can see the beauty."
This reminded me that the Lenten season is a time of renewal and rebirth. No matter how desolate a place may seem God's handiwork is visible. Soon the leaves will turn green and flowers will begin to bloom. Just as nature begins the renewal process, so may we renew our faith by examining our lives, repenting of our sins, and returning to God's way.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to always see beauty in your creation. Help us to give of ourselves during this season in which you so freely gave your Son for our salvation. Amen
